Still, please do just humor me and entertain the idea for just a while...
How it all started
So I recently bought a Frog Set, initially for Speedroid Frogs. As usual, I lost interest even before I got started. One day I sat down and looked through my collection to find the Frog Set. I search up online for the Frog effects to see what can go in tandem with them and realized that Swap Frog's discard requirements are no...not a Frog Monster, but any WATER monster!
With that in mind, I narrowed my deck idea to just WATER archetypes. Immediately, my favorite deck Nekroz came in mind. There are many synergy between Nekroz and Frogs. Such combos and synergies will be shown later in this article.
How do they work?
Nekroz
The Nekroz archetype is infamous for their Djinn Lock but apart from that, Nekroz do not really have a solid Turn 1 Field to prevent OTK or opponent's board establishment. Since this Meta revolves around the Juunishishi archetype, not having a good Turn 1 Field means that you will be easily overwhelmed by this Meta's pace of the game.
The Nekroz archetype however do offer a really strong Turn 2, being able to break most Lockdowns with a simple Unicore or Clausolas. Trishula depletes the enemy's resources. Despite such power plays on Turn 2, Nekroz loses resources really fast and will be destroyed by Juunishishi if the fight drags on too long.
Frogs
The Frog archetype recently got a massive boost in the Booster Invasion: Vengeance in a form of Treatoad. (I know in TCG Treatoad it is called Toadally Awesome and I find it ridiculous to type that so I will just go with Treatoad)
Treatoad offers a field presence similar or maybe even better than Cyber Dragon Infinity. Treatoad's standby phase effect allows you to Special Summon any frog from the deck. By summoning out Dupe Frog, Your opponent will have a hard time breaking that field.
Although the Frog archetype got such a massive boost, it is insufficient by itself to win the duel. Frogs do not have a Win Condition is thus is only made as an Engine most of the time.
Synergy
With the above general information in mind, it is clear that Nekroz and Frogs compensates each others weakness, at least by a little. Frog provides the board presence while Nekroz drives the OTK pushes. Another thing that many of you will probably fear is consistency issues. After numerous testing, (not play testing) I find that the Deck can be rather consistent with the help of Moray of Greed.
Moray of Greed acts as an Allure of Darkness but much better. Since Nekroz has limited resources, you do not want to banish your Nekroz cards like what Allure does. However shuffling back the card allows you to be able to tutor them with Nekroz's immense searching capabilities.
To link back on Treatoad's uses in the deck, when Treatoad is sent to the grave, you get to Salvage any WATER monster in the grave. Yea you heard me right. Unicore Limited? Brionac Limited? Just add them back and reuse them!
Combos
Alright so the Frog and Nekroz Deck do have some combos that help each other.
Combo #1
Cards Needed in Hand: Swap Frog and any WATER monster
1) Special Summon Swap Frog by discarding the WATER monster.
2) Activate Swap Frog's effect to dump Ronintoadin
3) Activate Swap Frog's effect to bounce him back to hand
4) Normal Summon Swap Frog
5) Activate Swap Frog's effect to dump Dupe Frog
6) Banish Dupe Frog to Special Summon Ronintoadin
7) Xyz Summon Treatoad
8) During your opponent's standby phase, Activate Treatoad's effect to Special Summon Dupe Frog
The is the general first turn combo. Since most of your deck consists of WATER monsters, this combo is very Consistent.
Combo #2
Cards Needed on Field: Swap Frog and Any Monster (Situational)
There are no steps to this combo. Swap frog's target to bounce any monster back to hand need not be only himself. This means that you can return a Trishula, Unicore or even a Manju/Senju after using their effects for next turn. This combo is used to recycle effects.
Combo #3
Cards Needed on Field: 2 Treatoads
1) During the Standy Phase of any player activate both Treatoad's effect
2) Special Summon 2 Dupe Frog's from your deck
3) Sip on a cup of Coffee and watch you opponent Struggle
In the late game, summoning 2 Treatoads is very easy. Dupe Frog has the ability to force your Opponent to only attack them. Having 2 means that your opponent can't perform a battle. Use your Treatoad to negate anything that is capable of breaking the Combo.

Conclusion
That's the end of Part 1 of this series. Part 2 will feature my progress using the deck against the Juunishishi decks. Will this deck be viable or utterly destroyed? I will be testing this deck in my locals 2 weeks from now as I will be traveling to Thailand next week. Do excuse me for that week of vacation. Once again Dam Son here closing the first part of Intro To Frog Nekroz.Thank you.
How is it doing after hard test and techs?
ReplyDeleteSad to say it's rather inconsistant. I'm trying to find a way to make Nekroz work and worth it to post on part 2. Sorry for the delay.
